£35.00

Signed page - (1917-1993) President of the National Union of Mineworkers from 1971 to 1982. He led the national strike in 1972 which caused widespread power cuts for over a month and forced Britain to reduce the working week to three days. Two years later, NUM members voted again for to strike and stopped work, their demands again were met and a "Plan For Coal" was created that suggested the use of coal was to be expanded.

In 1981, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher threatened to break with the plan and close 23 pits when a national strike was threatened, Thatcher backed down. Gormley left his post in 1982 and was replaced by Arthur Scargill.
