Signed page - (1923- 2006) Chairman of the Board of Governors of the BBC from 1986 to 1996. Hussey was severely injured in World War II having a leg amputated as a prisoner-of-war. He joined Associated Newspapers where he worked up to managing director, then ran Times Newspapers. He became Chairman of the BBC in 1986, due to his close links with the Conservative party.

Within three months he forced the resignation of Director-General Alasdair Milne after many disagreements between the BBC and Conservatives. In the 1990s, Hussey fell out with Director General John Birt over his management style and Panorama’s controversial interview with Diana, Princess of Wales in 1995.
