Signed page - (1938 - 2009) Govenor of the Bank of England (1993-2003) known as "Steady Eddie" . During his governance the Bank was given independence in setting UK interest rates by Gordon Brown, the incoming Chancellor of the Exchequer after the 1997 general election.
