£300.00

A Autograph Signed Letter by J.Edgar Hoover (01,01,1895 – 02,05,1972) Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States 1935-72. T.L.S., J. Edgar Hoover, two pages, Washington DC, 3rd April 1953, to Palmer Hoyt, Editor and Publisher of The Denver Post, on the printed stationery of the Office of the Director, Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Department of Justice. Hoover announces that an article entitled Sorry Subterfuge - Who Were Those Men? by Roscoe Fleming which appeared in the 27th March 1953 issue of The Denver Post has been brought to his attention, remarking 'since it is obvious Mr. Fleming did not have the facts before him, I am taking this liberty of giving them to you.' Hoover continues to explain that Fleming's complaint involved 'an interview by two investigators of the Atomic Energy Commission with Dean Garrison of Denver University, stemming from Garrison's application for a position on an AEC project' and further relates the proper actions carried out by Special Agent in Charge J. B. Poster before commenting 'It does seem fundamental that experienced newspapermen would make efforts to assure themselves of the accuracy of their information prior to making accusations in their columns. Mr. Fleming had no contact whatsoever with the FBI prior to writing his column...and had he checked his facts, it would have been clear to him that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was not in any way whatsoever involved in this situation.' Accompanied by a typed carbon copy of Hoyt's reply to Hoover and three pages of typed notes signed by editor Robert Lucas providing background notes to the article.
