Signed card - (1913-1992) Chancellor of West Germany 1969-1974, and leader of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) 1964-1987. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1971 for his Ostpolitik, a controversial policy created to improve relationships with the Soviet Union, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and other Eastern Bloc (communist) countries.

In 1974, Brandt resigned as Chancellor after Günter Guillaume, one of his closest aides, was exposed as an agent of the Stasi, the East German secret police.
